10 October 2024 - As part of the celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) 2024, Ambassador Leo M. Herrera-Lim gave a presentation on Philippine Foreign Policy, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and the South China Sea Arbitral Award to the students of the Center for Science and Commercial Diplomacy (CSCD) Youth Academy at the Philippine Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The presentation discussed Philippine foreign policy core values and interests and the compelling reasons behind the filing of the arbitration case against China in 2012. It highlighted that the UNCLOS and the binding 2016 Arbitral Award are the twin anchors of foreign policy within the region for the Philippines. Equally important, it created a unique learning for the Scandinavian students on the geopolitical dynamics around the South China Sea (SCS)
Ambassador Herrera-Lim commented that, “The Embassy is particularly pleased on the growing interests coming from Scandinavian students on the situation in Asia, more specifically the South China Sea area, and their desire to dive deeper into UNCLOS, maritime entitlements and a rules-based international order”.END.
