The Philippine Embassy in Denmark, in cooperation with Filipino Community organization Kabayan Faroe Islands, successfully conducted a consular outreach mission at the Saint Mary’s Church in Tórshavn, on Streymoy Island, the capital city of the Faroe Islands on 01-02 June 2024. As of April 2024, there are 674 registered Filipinos in the Faroe Islands.
During the mission, the team provided a total of 215 consular and labor services, consisting of 37 mobile ePassport applications, 50 notarials, 23 civil registry applications, and 2 dual citizenship and 75 MWO-OWWA services. 23 consultation services on various consular concerns were also provided. Further, a total of 5 Filipinos registered for overseas voting.
Philippine Ambassador to Denmark, Leo M. Herrera-Lim, and MWO London Officer-in-Charge and Welfare Officer, Ms. Sheila Mae Aguilar, met with a group of 50 Filipino migrant workers from the fishing industry, who have been severely affected by the ongoing strike and lockdown happening across the Faroe Islands. Unlike union members caught within the strike, these Filipinos have not been receiving any direct assistance or benefits from any of the unions. The workers and their families have been struggling in the past three (3) weeks and are anxiously awaiting the resolution of the impasse between the employers and the unions. MWO London has committed to provide assistance to cover the workers’ necessities. The Faroe-based Filipino organization, Kabayan, is also finding ways to assist them.
On 02 June 2024, the Embassy also met with Filipino entrepreneurs and overseas employees, and visited their businesses/workplaces in the Faroe Islands. Ms. Mhalen Rafol Arbis is the owner of the first Filipino-Asian store in the Faroe Islands while Ms. Khate Delfin Zachariassen is the manager of two cafes at the Faroe Islands airport.
Members of the Filipino community in the Faroe Islands expressed their gratitude for the outreach mission conducted in their area, which is 1,652 kilometers from Copenhagen and therefore very costly to travel from to avail of consular services. END.
