Photo CoffeeEvent 1

The Philippine Embassy in Denmark hosted its first Philippine-themed coffee event entitled “Filippinsk Kaffedag” on 9 November 2023 in partnership with Café Nabo, a local café in Copenhagen. Two Arabica single origin coffees—“Sagada” and “Mt. Apo”—were enjoyed by guests (locals and Filipinos) for the 1.5-hour event. Representatives of the global coffee company JDE-Peet’s (largest in EU) were also present.

“Sagada” was served using 4 different methods: espresso, ristretto, lungo, and americano. On the other hand, “Mt. Apo” was served via pour-over/Chemex. The coffees were paired with two (2) Filipino desserts, biko (Filipino sticky rice) and bibingkang kamoteng kahoy (cassava cake).

Before the start of the coffee tasting, the Embassy shared basic information about the Philippines and its coffees (e.g. the types of coffees produced in the Philippines, areas where it is grown, the situation of coffee farmers, and how are we in terms of production).

Based on the survey, 100% of the guests found the event very satisfactory, mostly addressing the attendees’ curiosity of Philippine coffees’ taste. In terms of flavor, 38.5% described both of the coffee flavors as strong, 30.8% as moderate (vs intense and mild). In terms of aroma, majority of the guests defined the “Sagada” variety as smoky and nutty, while the “Mt. Apo” as smoky and herby.

Following the success of this initial coffee event, the Embassy aims to conduct a similar event in different cafés across Denmark.
