27 October 2023 - The Philippine Embassy in Denmark attended a reception for Denmark’s candidature to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council Category C for the term 2024-2025 hosted by the Danish Shipping and Danish Maritime Authority.

Ms. Anne H. Steffensen, CEO of the Danish Shipping and Mr. Andreas Nordseth, Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority discussed the importance and work of IMO, addressing key challenges, enhancing international maritime cooperation and Denmark’s priorities for the future work of the IMO.

The Philippines has been a member of the IMO since 1964 and of the 20-state members IMO Council category C since 1997. As a member of the IMO Council, the Philippines commits to ensuring safety of life and property at sea, sustainable shipping and environmentally sound maritime shipping industry.

For term 2024-2025, the Philippines and Denmark are vying for a position in the same IMO Council at elections to be held during the 33rd IMO Assembly on 1 December 2023 in London. END
