19 August 2023 – The Philippine Embassy participated in the Regional Congress 2023 of the Filipino Nurses Association in the Nordic Region (FiNAN) on the 19th of August, held in Copenhagen. This event convened Filipino nurses within the Nordic region, encompassing Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, and Greenland. The Congress served as a platform to highlight the role of Filipino nurses in the health sector across Nordic nations.
Philippine Ambassador Leo Herrera-Lim addressed the nurses and extended sincere appreciation to FiNAN for their steadfast efforts aimed at heightening the presence of Filipino nurses in both Denmark and the Nordic region. He emphasized that the proficiency exhibited by Filipino nurses has been a driving force behind the elevated standard of healthcare services delivered in the countries they serve. The acknowledgment of Filipino nurses enhances our nation's reputation and cultivates respect towards our people.
He conveyed the Embassy’s commitment in facilitating an organized recruitment procedure for Filipino nurses, ensuring that the process adheres to fair, ethical and sustainable sourcing of nursing talent from the Philippines to Denmark. He expressed the transformative potential of the PH-DK partnership in advancing the healthcare sector in the Philippines by facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience between nurses from both regions, thus improving the quality of life for citizens in both countries.
The Ambassador also discussed the Embassy's ongoing initiatives aimed at increasing Danish society's recognition of the immense talent of Filipino nurses. He urged the participants to collaborate and collectively aspire to achieve greater accomplishments.
The Congress featured a roster of speakers, including representatives from the Danish academic sphere and healthcare practitioners from both hospitals and nursing facilities.
FiNAN also invited Mr. Jens-Kristian Lütken, Copenhagen’s Mayor for Employment and Integration, as a keynote speaker, to discuss the City Government’s efforts to bring in foreign nurses to Denmark in light of the shortage of healthcare workers. END
