17 June 2023, Copenhagen: The 1st Philippine Cultural Day held at Copenhagen’s iconic Town Hall Square (Rådhuspldsen) on 17 June 2023 amassed thousands of attendees—including hundreds of Filipinos, members of the diplomatic corps, the local Danish society, expats, and passerby tourists—during the five (5) hour festivity.
The program featured the Philippines’ traditional music and dances, mixed with OPMs and pinoy pop dances. Two arnis exhibitions were also demoed—one for the children and the other for adults. Fourteen (14) individual and group performances astounded the attendees.
Filipino cuisine and flavors were made available to the public with the presence of five Filipino food stores/restaurants, namely: My Kusina, Jabby’s Filipino cuisine, Monette’s Turo-Turo, Sweet Way, and Tea:licious. Some of the popular dishes sold are lechon kawali, dinakdakan, Filipino-style pork barbecue, chicken inasal, and kare-kare. For desserts, halo-halo and ube milk tea topped the chart. The “Red horse” beer also delighted the attendees.
The number of visitors also overwhelmed the Philippine tourism booth, represented by Tourism Attaché Gerry Panga of London. The Bisita, Be My Guest (BBMG) Campaign of the Department of Tourism also kicked-off during the event.
