Ambassador Leo Herrera-Lim met with World Maritime University’s (WMU) Assistant Professor Anish Hebbar and Captain Seyedvahid Valkili to discuss updates on the IMO-WB study to improve the safety and energy efficiency of PH domestic passenger ships.
To intensify the decarbonization of domestic ferries, Ambassador Leo Herrera-Lim urged the team to look into tapping local shipyards located in PEZA zones to produce greener vessels and to explore other alternative sources of energy to complement existing renewable energy sources. He further made reference to Denmark’s bidding commercial and concessional ferry routes, including competitive pricing of passenger fees relative to bridge tolls, as a model to improve the use of shipping routes in PH.
The team of consultants from WMU are scheduled to undertake a second field visit to PH in mid-November.
