15 October 2019 - Senator Pilar “Pia” S. Cayetano met with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) expert and health officials during her visit to Copenhagen, Denmark, from October 6 to 9 as part of her advocacy for health and in her capacity as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on SDGs, innovations and futures thinking and also, Ways and Means Committee.
Senator Cayetano met with Mr. Jens Ole Back Hansen, Chief Adviser on SDGs of Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Hansen gave an overview of Denmark’s implementation of the SDGs, best practices and strategic cooperation with other countries. He also shared insights on Denmark’s legislation process on the SDGs and active collaboration with the private sector.
The Senator also met with Ministry of Health officials, Mr. Andreas Jull Sørensen and
Ms. Anja Gade Andersen to exchange ideas and policies on e-cigarette regulation.
Mr. Sørensen shared Denmark’s compliance with EU regulations on tobacco directive products and total ban on e-cigarette advertising. Senator Cayetano and the Danish health officials also discussed fitness and well-being policies for the public and local government units. The Senator also explored the possibility of integrating happiness and well-being research in the Philippines during a meeting with experts of the Happiness Research Institute.
Ever since its opening in January of this year, the Embassy has worked towards broader cooperation between the Philippines and Denmark on wide areas of mutual concern.
